Poster research and analysis

Teaser posters

A teaser poster, as seen in the examples, literally does what it is named to do. It teases the viewers about the film’s future release. These type of prints are made to advertise the film’s release, sometimes as early as before the filming even begins. This is done to create awareness and hype about the upcoming film. The main styles for a teaser poster is a symbol associated with the film, or simply just the title. The other style is the main character from the movie not making direct eye contact with the camera (the audience). Revealing the date on these posters is a matter of choice. The date is used to get excite people, make them save the date in their calendars and count down to the release. On the other side, a date might not be shown in order to leave a hint of mystery and anticipation within the target audience.

Main posters

A main poster always includes a clear view of the main character(s), as well as a setting from the film or an image from an actual scene within the film. A release of the film is stated in these posters, to create build-up of anticipation and expectation on the official date. The title is quite important, since a main poster is used to fit as much promotion onto one page as possible. The title is what the audience know the film for in the first place aside from the actors in the image.
